National leader of the Turkmen people, Speaker of Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, who is heading the Russian delegation as part of its working visit to Turkmenistan.

“Russia and Turkmenistan share close historical ties which reside on a solid foundation of mutual trust, common values and cultural traditions. Our two countries have achieved a high level of cooperation between them and forged a strategic partnership. This has had a positive bearing on our trade and economic ties. Trade between Russia and Turkmenistan increased and we hope to be able to further develop our relations in the spirit of mutual trust with the view to enhancing and stepping up our fruitful and effective cooperation,” Dmitry Patrushev said.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov also held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev. Its agenda focused on trade and economic cooperation, as well as efforts to preserve the Caspian Sea.

The Deputy Prime Minister argued that agricultural products were an important element of bilateral trade and went on to say that this sector enjoyed positive momentum with Russia ready to export more food products and mineral fertilisers.

Dmitry Patrushev also talked about environment protection and ecological matters as offering promising opportunities for cooperation. The Deputy Prime Minister said that Russia is ready to promote dialogue on a wide range of topics, primarily dealing with efforts to protect the Caspian Sea.
